Description Egypt Medal 1882-1885 1 Clasp Tel-El Kebir to Pte. J.S. Fanning 1st Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers SOLD Condition – Mint J. S. Fanning was a Private in the 1st Royal Fusiliers and was to see action at the Battle of Tel-El Kebir on 12th September 1882. During this engagement, the Royal Irish Fusiliers were part of the 1st Division and were deployed on the British right. The British attacked an entrenched Egyptian position which was four miles long and manned by 22,000 men. The attack was a complete success and the 725 troops of the 1st Royal Irish Fusiliers saw heavy fighting in which they sustained two men killed and 34 wounded. This medal was part of the famous Jubilee Collection and is listed in Glendining’s Catalogue in their 1992 sale. The medal is unusual in that it is in mint condition. Most Egypt 1882-1885 medals have been damaged by pitting due to being worn next to the Khedive bronze star. This particular medal therefore, is of outstanding quality.
